Maruti Suzuki is all set to kick off 2018 with a bang with the release of the next gen Swift. The Maruti Suzuki Swift was a runaway success from its very inception in 2005. The new swift is one of the most anticipated cars of the year. Making way for the 2018 Swift the production of the current generation car, which consistently topped the sales charts ended back in December 2017.
Here’s a compilation of the things we know so far about the 2018 Maruti Suzuki Swift –
1. The design overhaul
Maruti Suzuki hasn’t left any stone un-turned when it comes to the design of the 2018 Maruti Suzuki Swift. It looks nothing like the car it is bound to replace. The new Swift is sleeker and has a sportier look while maintaining the curviness of the older car that we’ve grown to love.
2. The new platform
The new Swift is based on Suzuki’s fifth generation B-platform known the HEARTECT platform which was introduced with the Baleno. Suzuki’s TECT (Total Effective Control Technology) platform aims to provide considerable improvements in safety and fuel economy and claims to be stronger and 10% more rigid while being 15% lighter compared to the one it replaces. This will pave way to a significant weight advantage compared to the competition.
3. The Engines
The India bound Swift will continued to be powered by the 2-litre petrol and 1.3-litre diesel engines currently on offer. There are rumors that Maruti will eventually replace the tried and tested 1.3L DDiS unit with a 1.5L power train.
4. The Swift RS
The Next gen Swift might also be launch in an RS trim with a 1-litre Boosterjet three-cylinder engine not unlike the Baleno RS.
5. The updated interior
The current generation Swift’s interior was starting to show its age and was in desperate need for a refresh. The interior of the 2018 Suzuki Swift will bring forth drastic changes, both in terms of look and feel as well as functionality.
6. Practicality and Convenience
The New Swift is larger than its predecessor and has boxier dimensions. So the legroom and head-space are bound to be considerably better like the New Suzuki Dzire (Check out our review here – Maruti Suzuki Dzire – Carfactor Review).
7. Better Safety kit
The 2018 Swift will feature Dual Airbags and ABS with EBD across the lineup.
8. Improved Fuel Economy
Owing to the new platform and lighter build, the 2018 Swift will most definitely set new benchmarks in terms of fuel economy in its segment.
9. Expected price
The new Swift is expected to be priced in the range of Rs 4.7 Lakh – Rs 8 Lakh
The next gen Swift is said to make its debut (in India) at the 2018 Auto Expo.
